Our Story

It all started in the summer of 2019. Emelia was working in Richland, her hometown, while preparing to apply to graduate school. Charlie had moved to Richland a year earlier and was working for the same company as Emelia but in a different department, so they had never crossed paths. A mutual coworker had invited them both to the county fair and made plans to take the bus together. Emelia and Charlie arrived earlier than their mutual friend, sighted the other and both thought hmmm…
The friend eventually arrived and introduced them and the evening suddenly had a lot of potential! One Three Doors Down concert, a few carnival games, and a prized stuffed animal later, they exchanged numbers and planned to go on a date the next weekend.
That summer marked the beginning of their relationship, which grew throughout the fall and winter, and eventually faced a new challenge with COVID-19. The lockdown gave them the space to grow closer without the usual distractions of everyday life. The time spent together built a solid foundation, giving them the confidence to navigate what came next - a long-distance relationship.
A year after they met, Emelia started law school at ASU in Phoenix, AZ, while Charlie moved to Raleigh, NC. They made countless trips across the country to see each other. They became "less" long distance when Emelia moved to Washington, DC as part of her law program in 2022. Emelia would take the train to Raleigh or Charlie would drive to DC. There were a lot more opportunities to see each other and explore new places together.
When Emelia was offered a position in Phoenix, they decided it was time to finally live in the same place again so off to Scottsdale they both moved. (Goodbye frequent flyer status!) In October, Charlie proposed to Emelia at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix and, of course, the answer was YES!
Over the past two years Emelia and Charlie have enjoyed exploring the Sonoran Desert and embracing the Southwest and all that Phoenix has to offer. They've thoroughly appreciated the mild winters and being able to brag about year round summer temperatures but they're excited to be facing another move! They’re moving north in the summer of 2025, back to Richland, just in time for a wedding!
We are excited to celebrate with you on September 27th!
